I have failed miserably when it comes to being consistent with this blog/newsletter.

Originally intended to be a monthly update, then relegated to an every six weeks publication, I find that the months get away from me too quickly and it is an inconsistent posting at best. Some months offer little or nothing to relay to my sweet authors, other months are packed full of news. I can only offer my apologies and say that while I will certainly continue to post, this blog-letter has its own agenda and will only function in its own time.

Today, I am happy to report that our fourth anthology, From the Porch Swing - memories of our grandparents, is officially at the printer and should be in our hot little hands in just a matter of weeks. This is our largest anthology yet, with over 100 authors from around the world, and we presented new and difficult challenges to our dear formatting editor at every turn. But! I am proud to say that she attacked these challenges with gusto and has turned out another beautifully formatted book! Thank you Barbara, for your patience and persistence!

Well, hello March! You arrived quicker than expected.

Here we are, March 2010 - the last two months have just flown by - it was just January, I blinked, and suddenly it's almost the first day of SPRING! We hope your holiday season, New Year celebrations, and Winter months have been joyous and productive.

The Silver Boomer Books partners have been making big plans for 2010.

In December we announced the release of two new titles:

A Time for Verse - Poetic Ponderings on Ecclesiastes by Barbara B. Rollins

The selection process for our next anthology From the Porch Swing - memories of our grandparents is complete, and acceptance letters are processing now. A big Thank You to all the authors who submitted their work for this anthology, we had so many great pieces to choose from, it's not easy to whittle it down. We appreciate all your hard work, and of course, your patience in regard to our selection process.

We have several signings coming up. Mark your calendars.

Any of our authors in the area please come by, say hello, have a chat, sign a few copies, and buy a copy of the books you don't have.

Even editors get the blues. Even the BIG houses sometimes make editing errors.
We're not perfect. We sometimes make mistakes. Unfortunately, we made two mistakes in the early formatting and editing process of This Path. "At Play with the Mouseketeers" was accidentally edited in half, a portion nicked out, which the fine eyes of the editors did not catch. We have posted the piece, along with our apologies to the author, Anthony J. Mohr, here.
Also in This Path (actually, NOT in This Path) we overlooked the biography of one of our dear authors, Peter Goodwin, please take the time to get to know Peter, and all of our authors from our third anthology, This Path.

Tuesday, November 3rd, Karen (aka Kerin) was a guest speaker at Hardin Simmons University. Mrs. Alicia Floyd and her English class gave a warm and inviting welcome. Karen was honored to share some of her poetry and to answer questions such as: What inspires you? What do you do when you get writer's block? Did you always want to be a writer? Who were some of your early influences? Karen hopes that the students left that day feeling a bit inspired, hopeful and self-assured that their own writing does not have to be perfect right out of the gate, that's what revisions and edits, rewrites and more edits are for!

...and welcome to October. September flew by in a whirlwind of signings, events and book printings.

Silver Boomer Books has a new imprint! Laughing Cactus Press is our poetry and fiction imprint.

Jim Wilson's newest book of poetry, Poetry Floats - New and Selected Philosphy-lite, is now available from Laughing Cactus Press. Find it on LCP, Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Shreveport author Laura Flett will be signing copies of her book Writing Toward the Light, A Grief Journey, Saturday, September 12, 1:00-4:00 pm at the Abilene, TX Hastings and Sunday, September 13, 1:00-3:00 pm at the Tyler, TX Hastings. If you're going to be in the area, please stop by. Flett, a single parent, lost her only son to suicide in 2003. Writing Toward the Light, says Flett, “…is the story of my journey from the dark void of fear back into the light of love, and of a pen that encouraged a new acceptance of myself and those around me….” Nationally-known writing teacher Natalie Goldberg has endorsed the book, saying, “This story is a witness to the power of writing.” Goldberg’s colleague Sean Murphy calls it “a testimony of the power of art to heal.” (For further information, please contact Becky Haigler at silverboomerbooks@gmail.com, editor/publisher with Silver Boomer Books)

I have been caught up in so much travel this summer that my poor little newsletter has been terribly neglected.

My apologies for the hiatus.

And now, back to our regularly schedule blogging.

Under a Comanche Moon, my book of historical fiction, won Honorable Mention at the 2009 Oklahoma Writers' Federation contest. It also won the Editor's Award at Weatherford College 2009 Annual Canis Latran Writing Contest. ~ Pat

The month of June 2009 at Silver Boomer Books:

We have a busy summer ahead of us… so we all took a little break and relaxed a bit before diving headlong into all our summer projects. Barbara took a cruise through Alaskan waters, Ginny and Karen took a road trip to Seattle, and Becky took off camping and visiting family in Texas and Louisiana.

Last month we stated we'd be releasing three books this summer season...I am happy to announce that the editing and print processes are coming along nicely and by the end of August we will have three new titles in print! Watch for announcements of Writing Toward the Light – A Grief Journey, (which is currently at the printer,) This Path (we anticipate a July printing) and Poetry Floats – New and Selected Philosophy-lite, (still planned for August.)

GUIDELINES!!!!

We must stress the importance of following our guidelines when submitting pieces for consideration in our anthologies. Please read the guidelines carefully and submit accordingly. Submissions which do not meet the guidelines will be discarded. We don’t want to have to throw anything away! Our writers are amazing people and amazing artists! We don’t want to lose any of you, so please FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES! Thank you ~smile~

Another of our SBB authors, Mary Deal, has provided the following information for those who are interested:

Though I wished it could have gone higher, as all writers wish, just making it into the top 10% of all books submitted is a real achievement. Greetings, Y’all!

Join us as we embark on the maiden voyage of the Silver Boomer Books monthly Newsletter.

As the “voice” to our readers and authors, I decided to craft a monthly post to keep everyone up to date and well-informed. We, at SBB, want to keep our authors, readers and fans in the know about upcoming publication dates, SBB events and signings, new calls for submissions, and the various morsels and tidbits of creativity and genius which pop up along the way.

The Silver Boomer Books crew would like to say how much we LOVE our authors! What an amazing group of clever, creative, genuine people. You have made this journey into publishing that much easier by your presence, your involvement and your patience. Thank you!

Our authors are at the very core of our success as an independent publishing house. Remember, sell, sell, sell. Market, market, market. Thank you to all of our authors who reference SBB in their blogs and on their author websites! The growing process is not always as fast, nor as painless, as we would like it to be, but each person YOU reach is one more leaf on our ever-growing tree! SBB Authors are a huge contribution to the overall success of our business.

We have several tentative signings coming up. As we know more about date and time, I will post them to this Newsletter site. So keep checking back. We also plan to have a booth at the West Texas Book & Music Festival again this year – so mark your calendars!

Written by an anonymous member of Overeaters Anonymous identified as OAStepper (from the name of her blog, OAStepper. Blogspot.com), this collection includes meditations, poems, scripture references, personal stories, and quotations from the Big Book, the affectionate title of Alcoholics Anonymous. Available on the EWP website, Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com and also on Amazon's Kindle!

Eagle Wings Press – an imprint of Silver Boomer Books – will release Writing Toward the Light A Grief Journey by Laura Flett in May/June 2009 (Previously Published and released under AuthorHouse in February 2008)

This Path SBB’s third Anthology will be released this summer.

Poetry Floats by Jim Wilson will be released in August 2009
